Base-Master preliminary release

Base-Master

preliminary release

Designed by Star Gazer Data Systems LLC

The Base-Master connects up to 12 I/O Modules to be used in data acquisition, command, monitoring, and control for various applications.

At the heart of the Base-Master is the high-performance Atmel 8-bit AVR RISC-based microcontroller with 1KB EEPROM, 2KB SRAM, and 14K of usable Flash Ram and communicates with the I/O Modules using the I2C Bus.

Up to 119 additional Base-Masters can be added via the RS-485 2 wire bus over a maximum distance of 4000 feet.

Channel calibration and range data are stored in EEPROM and the operating system is stored in Flash Ram. Data output can be in calculated values of each channel or in raw data format, both being comma delimited and terminating with a CRLF. The data stream is configurable from 1 to 10 second intervals or can set to only stream when commanded. I/O Slots that have not been configured will place “***” in the data stream. The values in the data stream can be configured with a maximum of 8 decimal places.

The Base-Master can be accessed using the built in USB port on the processor card using the resident terminal program and a dumb terminal or from the Data Logger software. The USB port can optionally be used as a means to load the operating system, and to configure the Base-Master.

The Base-Master can be used with other operating systems using the SGDS Standardized Command Structure.

The Base-Master has an address range from 1 to 120.

The external connections to the Base-Master uses a four pin connector that is a spring loaded type. This insures that connections are maintained in rough environments, high vibration, and can withstand temperature changes.

I/O Modules are based on 16-bit resolution for analog to digital and digital to analog conversion. Module addressing is determined based on slot addressing. Each slot has a predetermined address.

Available Modules:

  • 4 Channel Current Input with a range of 0 to 25 mA.

  • 4 Channel Current Output with a range of 0 to 20 mA.

  • 4 Channel Frequency Input with a range of 0 to 10KHz. 5 volt

  • 4 Channel Frequency Output with a range of 0 to 10KHz. 5 volt

  • 16 Channel I/O Module

  • 16 Channel Powered Relay Driver card that connects to the 16 Channel I/O Module

  • 16 Channel Open Collector Relay Driver card that connects to the 16 Channel I/O Module

The Data Logger software runs on Windows 7 or Windows 10, 32 bit or 64 bit systems. Charts can be configured for color, size, number of traces, and other parameters. Charts can be printed using the system printer. A Data View screen that displays incoming serial data, and a serial configuration screen is also available. Data is saved in CSV (Comma Separated Variable) format.
